So He spoke of the misguidance of those people all the way to that destined end, and of how these were conducted to this destined end.
Likewise, His words:
“Enter among nations that passed away before you, of jinn and humankind, into the Fire. Whenever a nation enters, it curses its sister—until, when they have all followed one another therein …” (1)
Likewise, His words:
“But when they forgot what they had been reminded of, We flung open for them the gates of all things, until, when they exulted …” (2)
Likewise, His words:
“We sent before you only men, to whom We revealed, chosen from among the people of the towns. Have they not journeyed through the land …—up to His saying—“for those who are mindful there is a lesson; will you not then understand?” (109)—“until, when the messengers despaired …” (3)

(=) The word al-bahr (the sea) is omitted in manuscript S. (1) Surah al-A‘raf, 7:38. (2) Surah al-An‘am, 6:44. (3) Surah Yusuf, 12:109–110. In the original it reads yuḥī instead of nūḥī, which is an error.

فأخبر عن ضلال أولئك إلى تلك الغاية، وعن تسيير هؤلاء إلى هذه الغاية. وكذلك قوله: {قَالَ ادْخُلُوا فِي أُمَمٍ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ مِنَ الْجِنِّ وَالْإِنْسِ فِي النَّارِ كُلَّمَا دَخَلَتْ أُمَّةٌ لَعَنَتْ أُخْتَهَا حَتَّى إِذَا ادَّارَكُوا فِيهَا جَمِيعًا} (١) . . . الآية. وكذلك قوله: {فَلَمَّا نَسُوا مَا ذُكِّرُوا بِهِ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ أَبْوَابَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ حَتَّى إِذَا فَرِحُوا} (٢) . وكذلك قوله: {وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِنْ قَبْلِكَ إلا رِجَالًا نُوحِي إِلَيْهِمْ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْقُرَى أَفَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ} إلى قوله: {لِلَّذِينَ اتَّقَوْا أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ (١٠٩) حَتَّى إِذَا اسْتَيْأَسَ الرُّسُلُ} (٣) . * * *
