—upon the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Rather, we believe in it. Allah—blessed and exalted be He—says:
‘Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it; and whatever he forbids you, refrain.’ (1)
Thus Allah—Mighty and Majestic—has commanded us to adopt whatever he has brought and to avoid whatever he has prohibited. His Names and Attributes are uncreated, and we seek refuge in Allah from slips, misgivings, and doubt. Indeed, He has power over all things.
Al-Khallal said: (2) Abu al-Qasim Ibn (3) al-Jabli (4) further conveyed to me—on the authority of (5) Hanbal—regarding this statement that Allah, blessed and exalted, also says:
‘There is no god but Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer.’ (6)
‘There is no god but Him, the Sovereign, the Most Holy, Peace, the Granter of Security, the Overseer, the Mighty, the Compeller, the Supreme.’ (7)
These are the attributes and Names of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, blessed and exalted.
