(1) Abdullah ibn Marra al-Hamdhani al-Kharqi al-Kufi was a reliable tabi‘i. He narrated from Ibn ‘Amr al-Barā’ and Masruq, and narrators such as al-A‘mash and Manṣūr reported from him. (2) The text in parentheses is blank in the original; the editor has supplied the name from manuscripts S, T, and Sharḥ Usūl al-ʿAqā’id Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamā‘ah. Ibn Abī Ḥātim records: “Abū Kunf heard Sa‘d ibn Mālik, ‘Abd Allāh ibn Mas‘ūd, and Abū Hurayrah; al-Sha‘bī and ‘Abd Allāh ibn Marra’, among others, transmitted from him.” See: Ibn Abī Ḥātim, al-Jarḥ wa al-Ta‘dīl 2/4:431 no.2139. (3) Ibrāhīm ibn Yazīd ibn Qays al-Nakh‘ī al-Kūfī, al-Imām al-Ḥāfiẓ and jurist of Iraq, was praised by Imam Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal as “intelligent, a master of ḥadīth, and a man of the Sunnah.” He was born in 50 AH and died in 96 AH. (4) All extant manuscripts read “qala faqala”; the reading adopted here is likely the correct one. (5) Dr. Aḥmad Sa‘d Ḥamdān, editor of Sharḥ Usūl al-ʿAqā’id Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamā‘ah by al-Lakkā’ī, comments on this report (2:232 n.4): “Ibrāhīm does not appear in the isnād, but perhaps Abū Kunf transmitted its first part, then met Ibrāhīm ibn Yazīd al-Nakh‘ī, who related to him the statement of ‘Abd Allāh ibn Mas‘ūd—including the initial segment—and supplemented it with the phrase ‘and whoever disbelieves even a single letter…’ etc. This is confirmed by ‘Abd al-Razzāq’s transmission from him of the complete report as given here (al-Musannaf no.15946).”
