Al-TisʿīniyyaIbn Taimiya

Salam al-Baykandi (1), one of al-Bukhari’s teachers—cited in his Kitab al-Sunnah wa-l-Jamaʿah (2). Among the works he composed is a treatise entitled: “Narrations on the emergence of the Jahmiyyah and the Samaniyyah, their circumstances, and their disbelief in the signs of Allah.”

[He relates] (3) from Hafs b. ʿAbd al-Rahman al-Balkhi (4), who said: “Saʿid b….”

He also said, Abu Muʿadh: “The enemy of Allah has lied; indeed, Allah is in the heaven on His Throne, as He has described Himself.” See: Sharḥ Uṣūl Iʿtiqād Ahl al-Sunna wa-l-Jamāʿa by al-Laqqāʾī, ed. Dr. Aḥmad Saʿd Ḥamdān, vol. 3, pp. 380–381. Also cited via this golden chain in Mukhtaṣar al-ʿUluww, ed. Muḥammad Nāṣir al-Dīn al-Albānī, p. 163. (1) He is Abū ʿAbd Allāh Muḥammad b. Salām b. Faraj al-Sulamī, mawla of al-Bukhārī in Baykand, an imām, ḥāfiẓ, critic, and hadith scholar of Transoxiana. He was among the great vessels of knowledge and authorities of narration. Al-Bukhārī, Abū Muḥammad al-Dārimī, and others transmitted from him. He wrote works on every branch of knowledge. He is not mentioned by Schacht, nor do any of the compilers of works on early Islamic heritage cite a specific book by him. He was born in 160 AH and died in 225 AH. (2) I have found no copy of this book in its expected repositories, and none of the sources on Muḥammad b. Salām’s biography mentions a specific work by him—as noted above—apart from his having written on every branch of knowledge. (3) The text in braces is an addition by S., T. to suit the context. (4) In all manuscripts it reads “al-Bajlī.” I have found no trace of anyone by this name in the sources at my disposal. He is perhaps Abū ʿUmar Ḥafṣ b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿUmar b. Furūkh b.
