The sixth aspect:
Allah, Exalted is He, says in His Book,

“Indeed, those who conceal what We have sent down of clear proofs and guidance…” (1) — the verse (2)

He also says,

“Indeed, those who conceal what Allah has revealed of the Scripture and barter it away for a paltry price, they are only consuming fire into their bellies, and on the Day of Resurrection Allah will not speak to them, nor will He purify them, and for them is a painful punishment.” (3)

And He, the Exalted, says,

“When Allah took the covenant of those who had been given the Scripture: ‘You shall make it clear to the people…’ ” (4) — the verse.

Thus, whoever commands the concealment of that with which Allah has described Himself and that with which (5) His Messenger has described Him has indeed concealed what Allah sent down of manifest proofs and guidance after He had made it clear (6) to the people in the Book. This is exactly what Allah condemned the scholars of the Jews for, and it is one of the traits of the deviant (7) who claim knowledge within this ummah. The Prophet ﷺ said, “Whoever is asked about knowledge he possesses and then withholds it, Allah will bridle him on the Day of Resurrection with a bridle of fire.” (8)

Allah, Most High, has also said,

“And who is more unjust than one who conceals a testimony he has from Allah?” (9)

The seventh aspect:
Whoever commands the concealment of what Allah sent with His Messenger—whether from the Quran or the hadith, such as the verses and reports in which Allah describes Himself and in which His Messenger describes Him—and who instructs along with

(1) Quran 2:159. (2) In the printed edition, the clause min baʿd mā bayyannāhu lil-nās fī l-kitāb (“after We have explained it to the people in the Book”) is inserted. (3) Quran 2:174. (4) Quran 3:187. (5) In the original text it reads wasaf bihi; this makes no coherent sense. The reading found in S and T is adopted. (6) In all the manuscripts it reads ma bayyanāhu; the correct reading is likely the one I have established. (7) In the original text it reads al-zāʾidīn, which is a scribal corruption; the reading confirmed by S and T is preferred. (8) This hadith was previously cited (see p. 117). (9) Quran 2:140.
