= Brockelmann, History of Arabic Literature, vol. 3, p. 157; Sezgin, History of Arab Heritage, vol. 1, part 1, p. 209.
(1) In all copies: al-ʿAdini, a name I have not encountered elsewhere; he is likely Abu ʿAbd Allāh Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā ibn Abī ʿUmar al-ʿAdanī, the muhaddith (hadith scholar), hafiz, and judge of Aden. He died in 243 AH. Among his works is the Musnad, which I have not personally examined. Ibn Ḥajar notes in his introduction to al-Maṭālib al-ʿĀliya (1/4) that it is one of the Musnads he reviewed in full, and that he incorporated its additional narrations into the aforementioned work. See: Tadhkirat al-Ḥuffāẓ (al-Dhahabī) 2/501; Tahdhīb al-Tahdhīb (Ibn Ḥajar) 9:518–520; al-Aʿlām (al-Zarkalī) 8/3; Kashf al-Ẓunūn (Ḥājī Khalīfa) 2/1678; al-Risāla al-Mustatrafa (al-Kattānī), p. 50; Muʿjam al-Muʾallifīn (Kāhala) 12/107. He is not listed among Sezgin’s works.
(2) He is Abu Bakr ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm ibn ʿUthmān al-ʿAbsī al-Kūfī, known as Ibn Abī Shayba. Born in 159 AH and died in 235 AH. Among his compositions is the Musnad – ṭ. He included in it hadiths on divine attributes—see al-Muṣannaf (Ibn Abī Shayba) 10/209, Book of Supplication, chapter “Whoever would say: ‘O Turner of the hearts,’” hadiths 9245–9248; and 13/180, Book on God’s Mercy, on what was mentioned regarding the vastness of God’s mercy, hadiths 16046, 16051, 16052. See: al-Ṭabaqāt al-Kubrā (Ibn Saʿd) 6/413; al-Jarḥ wa’l-Taʿdīl (Ibn Abī Ḥātim) 2/160; Tārīkh Baghdād (al-Baghdādī) 10/66; Tadhkirat al-Ḥuffāẓ (al-Dhahabī) 2/432; Kashf al-Ẓunūn (Ḥājī Khalīfa) 2/1678; al-Aʿlām (al-Zarkalī) 4/260; Sezgin, History of Arab Heritage, vol. 1, part 1, p. 206 (Qur’an and Hadith sciences).
(3) In some copies it reads “Yaqī,” which is erroneous.
