Al-TisʿīniyyaIbn Taimiya

We profess that the funeral prayer is to be offered for anyone who dies from among the People of the Qiblah, the righteous among them 1 and the flagrant sinner alike, and that their rights of inheritance remain valid 2.

We acknowledge that both Paradise and Hellfire are created.

We hold that whoever dies or is slain does so only at the moment Allah has decreed for him.

We believe that all provision comes from Allah, Mighty and Majestic; He apportions it 3 to His servants, whether it be lawful or unlawful.

We affirm that Satan whispers to human beings, casts doubt into their hearts, and confounds them 4—contrary to the claim of the Muʿtazilah and the Jahmiyyah—as Allah the Exalted says:

“Those who consume usury will not stand except as one stands whom Satan has confounded by his touch.” 5

And as He says:

“From the evil of the stealthy whisperer, who whispers in the breasts of mankind—among jinn and mankind.” 6

We further state that Allah may single out the righteous with miraculous signs that He causes to appear through them.

Regarding the children of the polytheists, our view is that Allah will kindle a fire for them in the Hereafter and then say 7, “Enter it,” as the report concerning this has been transmitted 8.

(1) In al-Ibāna: barham. (2) In Ṭ: muwārathat-hum; in al-Ibāna: tawārathahum. (3) In the original: “...yarzuqha Allāh—Glorified and Exalted—yarzuquhu ‘ibādahu.” The passage is coherent without the added phrase, as confirmed in S, Ṭ, al-Ibāna, and in Tabyīn Kaẓīb al-Muftarī. (4) In the original: “wa yaslukuhu wa yukhaṭṭuhu” (a copyist’s error). In S, Ṭ, and Tabyīn Kaẓīb al-Muftarī it reads “yukhbiṭuhu,” which al-Ibāna also confirms. (5) Qurʾān, 2:275. (6) Qurʾān, 114:4–6. The phrase “min sharri” (“from evil”) does not appear in the original. (7) In al-Ibāna: yaqūl lahum. (8) Numerous reports support this, reinforcing one another. For example, Imam Aḥmad (may God have mercy on him) records in his Musnad (4/24), on the authority of al-Aswad ibn Sarīʿ, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)…
