Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

the Christians to be unbelievers, commanded that they be fought, and declared himself free of them and of their religion; and had he been a liar, not a single word of what he conveyed from Allah, Mighty and Majestic, would have been accepted.

Allah—exalted be He—has already said more than once:

“They have certainly disbelieved who say, ‘God is the third of three.’” ⦗5:73⦘

“They have certainly disbelieved who say, ‘God is the Messiah, son of Mary.’” ⦗5:17⦘

“The Christians say, ‘The Messiah is the son of God.’ That is what they say with their own mouths, imitating the statement of those who disbelieved before them. May Allah destroy them; how they are deluded!” ⦗9:30⦘ (30)

“They have taken their rabbis and monks as lords instead of Allah, as well as the Messiah, son of Mary, while they were commanded only to worship one God. There is no deity but Him; exalted is He above what they associate with Him.” ⦗9:31⦘

So could anyone who speaks of the Christians in such terms instruct his nation, in every single prayer, to say: “Guide us to their path”?

It is further asked: What in the verse suggests that his words “the path of those You have favored” refers to the Christians?

Rather, those who have been favored are the ones Allah names in His saying—exalted be He:

“Whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger will be with those upon whom Allah has bestowed His favor: the prophets, the steadfast affirmers of truth, the martyrs, and the righteous. What excellent companions these are!” ⦗4:69⦘
