Section: The Messenger is a human being; he does not know the unseen, nor does he claim to be an angel.

As for the Almighty’s words, “Say, ‘I do not know what will be done with me or with you,’” the entire verse is:

“Say, ‘I am no novelty among the messengers, and I do not know what will be done with me or with you. I follow only what is revealed to me, and I am nothing but a clear warner.’” (Al-Aḥqāf 46:9)

This comes immediately after His statement:

“Or do they say, ‘He has fabricated it’? Say, ‘If I have fabricated it, you will have no power to shield me from Allah at all. He knows best what you immerse yourselves in. He is sufficient as a witness between me and you, and He is the All-Forgiving, the All-Merciful.’” (Al-Aḥqāf 46:8)

A parallel verse is His saying:

“Say, ‘I do not tell you that the treasuries of Allah are with me, nor do I know the unseen, nor do I say to you that I am an angel. I follow only what is revealed to me.’ Say, ‘Can the blind and the seeing be alike? Will you not, then, reflect?’” (Al-Anʿām 6:50)

These were the very words spoken by Noah—peace be upon him—the first of the messengers, and Muhammad—peace and blessings be upon him—was likewise commanded
