Section: The testimony of the Jewish scriptures to Jesus’s prophethood is likewise a testimony to Muhammad.

They say, “What proof could be greater, what testimony stronger than this? These are the very books of our enemies who oppose our religion; yet they themselves acknowledge it, recite it in their synagogues, and have not rejected a single word or even a single letter of it.”

The reply: Even if, as they claim, these statements were indeed transmitted from certain prophets, they contain no praise for their religion after it has been altered—let alone after it has been both abrogated and altered. All they do is foretell the end of the dominion of the Children of Israel and the abrogation of those parts of their law that were destined to be annulled with the advent of the Messiah—peace be upon him. This constitutes evidence for the Messiah’s prophethood and truthfulness, something on which the Muslims are unanimously agreed.

Moreover, the Messiah—peace be upon him—is, in the Muslims’ view, just as Allah informed Mary when He said:

“In truth, Allah gives you glad tidings of a Word from Him; his name is the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, honored in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near to Allah. He will speak to people in the cradle and in maturity and will be among the righteous.” ⦗Āl ʿImrān 3:45–46⦘
