with the light of Allah. He then recited:
“Indeed, in that are signs for those who discern.” [Al-Ḥijr 15:75]
Al-Tirmidhi said: “This is a sound (ḥasan) hadith.” It has also been transmitted from some of the early generations that the hearts of the believers illuminate the dwellers of the heavens just as the stars illuminate the dwellers of the earth.
When a created being becomes renowned in a certain land so that his love, mention, and obedience are plainly evident, people say, “So-and-so has appeared in this region.” In the same way, when the remembrance of Allah—His names, attributes, oneness, signs, and worship—becomes manifest so thoroughly that hearts once darkened by disbelief and idolatry are now filled with it, that is precisely the manifestation He informed us about. This occurs most profoundly in His houses where He is worshipped and where His name is remembered.
For this reason, when the Exalted mentioned the Verse of Light, He said:
“Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The parable of His light is that of a niche wherein is a lamp; the lamp is in a glass; the glass is as though it were a radiant star, lit from a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west—whose oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire. Light upon light. Allah guides to His light whom He wills. Allah sets forth parables for mankind, and Allah has full knowledge of everything.” [An-Nūr 24:35]
