The prophet Daniel—peace be upon him—said:

“Upon your people and your holy city there shall pass 70 weeks; then sins will reach their term, transgressions will vanish, and iniquity will be forgiven. The truth that has never before been sent will be brought, and the prophecies of the prophets and the writings of the messengers will be fulfilled. With the coming of the Messiah, the holy city will be destroyed and laid waste, and the ancient covenant will be abolished among the people. After a week and a half the sacrifices and offerings of the Jews will cease, and they will be consigned to impurity and corruption until the end of time.”
