“Fight those who do not believe in Allah or the Last Day, who do not forbid what Allah and His Messenger have forbidden, and who do not follow the religion of truth—among the people who were given the Scripture—until they pay the jizyah with their own hands while humbled.” ⦗al-Tawbah 9:29⦘.
It has already been shown that the People of the Book who altered the religion of Moses and the Messiah, and who denied either the Messiah or Muhammad—peace and blessings be upon him—have been declared disbelievers in numerous passages. These verses are explicit and the texts abundant; the matter is mass-transmitted and known by necessity from the religion of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him.
Yet these Christians treat the Quran exactly as they treated the Torah and the Gospel: they abandon the firm, decisive, crystal-clear texts that admit only one meaning, and cling instead to what is ambiguous and open to interpretation—even though those very passages contain evidence that refutes their claims. Concerning them and those like them, Allah, exalted be He, says:
“It is He who has sent down to you the Book. In it are verses that are precise—they are the foundation of the Book—and others ambiguous. As for those in whose hearts is deviance, they pursue what is ambiguous in it, seeking discord and seeking its interpretation. Yet none knows its true interpretation except Allah. Those firmly grounded in knowledge say, ‘We believe in it; all of it is from our Lord.’ But none take heed except people of insight.” ⦗Āl ʿImrān 3:7⦘.
