to set free the saʾibah, and he corrupted Abraham’s religion.

Likewise, the descendants of Isaac who, before Moses was sent, clung to Abraham’s creed were among the blessed and praiseworthy. Those who remained upon the religion of Moses, Jesus, and Abraham—and others like them—are the very people whom Allah, Exalted is He, praised when He said:

“Indeed, those who believe, the Jews, the Christians, and the Sabians—whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day and acts righteously—shall have their reward with their Lord; no fear shall befall them, nor shall they grieve.” ⦗al-Baqarah 2:62⦘.

Consequently, the People of the Book, after their scriptures were abrogated and altered, can no longer be counted among those who believe in Allah and the Last Day and perform righteous deeds, just as He, exalted be He, said:

السَّوَائِبَ، وَغَيَّرَ دِينَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ» . وَكَذَلِكَ بَنُو إِسْحَاقَ الَّذِينَ كَانُوا قَبْلَ مَبْعَثِ مُوسَى مُتَمَسِّكِينَ بِدِينِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ كَانُوا مِنَ السُّعَدَاءِ الْمَحْمُودِينَ، فَهَؤُلَاءِ الَّذِينَ كَانُوا عَلَى دِينِ مُوسَى وَالْمَسِيحِ وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَنَحْوُهُمْ هُمُ الَّذِينَ مَدَحَهُمُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى: {إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَالَّذِينَ هَادُوا وَالنَّصَارَى وَالصَّابِئِينَ مَنْ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا فَلَهُمْ أَجْرُهُمْ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ وَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ} [البقرة: ٦٢] . فَأَهْلُ الْكِتَابِ بَعْدَ النَّسْخِ وَالتَّبْدِيلِ لَيْسُوا مِمَّنْ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ، وَلَا بِالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا، كَمَا قَالَ - تَعَالَى -:
