“But righteousness is found in the one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets.” ⦗al-Baqarah: 177⦘.
He also says, “Indeed, the truly virtuous will be in bliss.” ⦗al-Infitar: 13⦘.
And His words: “True believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts tremble; when His revelations are recited to them, they grow in faith, and they place their trust in their Lord.” ⦗al-Anfal: 2⦘.
At other times He joins the term to another, as in: “Co-operate in righteousness and piety.” ⦗al-Maʾidah: 2⦘, and in: “Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds…” ⦗al-Baqarah: 277⦘.
The same applies to the words faqir (poor) and miskin (needy): when either appears by itself it includes the sense of the other, yet both may be mentioned together, as in His statement, “Alms are only for the poor and the needy…” ⦗al-Tawbah: 60⦘.
