Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

said: “The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—never struck anything with his hand: not a servant of his, nor a woman, nor anything at all, except when he was fighting in the cause of Allah. He never took revenge for himself for any wrong done to him; but when the sacred limits of Allah were violated, he would exact retribution for Allah’s sake.”

It is likewise recorded in the two Ṣaḥīḥs from Anas ibn Mālik—may Allah be pleased with him—who said:

“I served the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—for ten years. Never once did he say to me, ‘Uff!’ Nor did he ever ask me about something I had done, ‘Why did you do it?’ or about something I had left undone, ‘Why did you not do it?’ Whenever someone from his household blamed me for anything, he would say, ‘Leave him alone; had it been decreed to happen, it would have happened.’”
