or by confirmation; rather, it merely states that your religion belongs to you—you alone are attached to it and I repudiate it—whereas my religion belongs to me, I alone adhere to it, and you are free of it.
This is a definitive, unalterable ruling that can never be abrogated, just as the Exalted said about the Friend (Abraham):
“And when Abraham said to his father and his people, ‘Indeed, I am innocent of all that you worship’” ⦗al-Zukhruf 26⦘ (26)
“‘except Him who created me; for He will surely guide me.’” ⦗al-Zukhruf 27⦘.
The Exalted has also said:
“For every human being We have fastened his augury to his neck” ⦗al-Isrāʾ 13⦘,
meaning whatever proceeds from him, whether good or evil.
He, the Exalted, further says:
“No soul earns but against itself, and no bearer shall bear the burden of another” ⦗al-Anʿām 164⦘,
and He says:
“It shall have what it has earned, and against it is what it has wrought” ⦗al-Baqarah 286⦘.
