Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

But when those writings reached the Muslim scholars who happened to receive them, they exposed their fabrications by ways that are themselves known through mass-transmitted evidence. Among the indications they cited is the statement found therein: “What is contained herein was witnessed by Kaʿb ibn Mālik the ḥabr in the presence of the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace,” by which they actually meant Kaʿb al-Aḥbār. Now, Kaʿb al-Aḥbār only accepted Islam during the caliphate of ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb; he never met the Prophet, and his given name was Kaʿb ibn Mātiʿ. Among the Anṣār, however, there was another man named Kaʿb ibn Mālik—the poet whose repentance Allah revealed in Sūrat al-Barāʾah—and these ignorant authors mistook one man for the other.

They likewise cite the testimony of Saʿd ibn Muʿādh, on whose death the Throne of the All-Merciful shook, alleging that he gave that testimony in the year of Khaybar, whereas the people of knowledge are unanimously agreed that he died
