And once you know that every group among the Muslims, the Jews, and the Christians admits that their scriptures have undergone alteration and change—whether in their meanings, their commentaries, or their legal prescriptions—this fact alone is sufficient. From the moment Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, was sent, whoever does not believe in him is deemed an unbeliever. This differs from the situation of the Christians before his advent: at that time there were people who followed the religion of Jesus. As for the Muslims, although some among them have distorted and changed the religion, their majority opposed those people. A group among them will continue manifest upon the truth, unharmed by those who oppose or abandon them, until the Hour is established. By contrast, the Christians as a whole have fallen into unbelief, just as the Jews became unbelievers by rejecting the Messiah.
Muslims, drawing on abundant evidence, demonstrate that the Christians have altered the meanings of the Torah, the Gospel, the Psalms, and other prophetic writings, and have introduced a law that neither the Messiah nor any other prophet ever brought. No rational person could accept their claim that all the children of Adam—including the prophets, the messengers, and everyone else—were held in Hell, imprisoned by Satan, simply because their father Adam ate from the tree, and that they were released only when the Messiah was crucified.
