Those Christians build the very foundation of their religion on the words of the disciples—whom they regard as infallible—insisting that the disciples are protected from error both in transmitting from Christ and in issuing legal judgements, and that whatever the disciples have declared, Christ himself—peace and blessings be upon him—has declared.
In the same way, these sectarians maintain that their own figures are immune from error in transmission and in legal opinion, and that whatever they say has in fact been said by the Messenger—peace and blessings be upon him. A detailed treatment of this appears elsewhere.
The point at hand is that the Christians possess no mass-transmitted report from Christ that matches the exact wording of these Gospels, nor do they have—whether mass-transmitted or even solitary—any report covering most of the laws they now follow. Likewise, neither they nor the Jews have a mass-transmitted preservation of the precise wording of the Torah and its prophecies
