The Muslims have replied to this charge in several ways.

One of them is to say: As for the claim that some of his statements contradict others—such as their assertion that his Book praises the People of the Book in one place and censures them in another, or that it affirms the revealed scriptures at one time and disparages them at another—its falsity is plain. He praised only those who followed Moses and the Messiah upon the religion that had neither been altered nor abrogated, whereas those who adhered to the altered, abrogated religion he declared to be unbelievers.

As for their allegation that his report conflicts with the reports of other prophets, we reply: he is a confirmer of the prophets and of what they conveyed. Whatever in their words has been changed—whether by tampering with the wording, through translation, or by interpreting it contrary to their intent—he did not endorse.

It is also said that the prophethood of Muhammad—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—is established by the very same evidences by which the prophethoods of the messengers before him are established, and by even stronger proofs, as has been set out elsewhere.
