“My mercy encompasses all things, yet I shall decree it for those who are mindful of Me, who give the prescribed alms, and who believe in Our signs—those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered Prophet whom they find recorded with them in the Torah and the Gospel. He enjoins upon them what is right and forbids them what is wrong; he makes lawful for them what is wholesome and prohibits what is foul; he removes from them their burdens and the shackles that were upon them. So those who believe in him, honor him, support him, and follow the light that has been sent down with him—it is they who will prosper. Say, ‘O mankind! I am the Messenger of Allah to you all—His is the dominion of the heavens and the earth; there is no god but He. He gives life and causes death. Believe, then, in Allah and in His Messenger, the unlettered Prophet who himself believes in Allah and His words, and follow him so that you may be guided.’” ⦗7:156–158⦘
He—exalted is He—also says, addressing the Christians:
“People of the Book, do not exceed the bounds in your religion, and say nothing about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only the Messenger of Allah, His word which He conveyed to Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers, and do not say, ‘Three.’ Desist; that is better for you. Allah is only one God. Glory be to Him—far above having a child. His is all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth, and Allah suffices as Guardian. The Messiah would never disdain to be a servant of Allah, nor would the angels who are nearest. Whoever disdains His worship and grows arrogant, He will gather them all to Himself. But as for those who believe and do righteous deeds, He will give them their rewards in full and will grant them even more out of His bounty; whereas those who disdain and act arrogantly, He will punish with a painful punishment, and they will find for themselves, apart from Allah, no protector and no helper.” ⦗4:171–173⦘
