If, by saying that he “confirmed their scriptures,” they mean that he endorsed the doctrines and rulings they invented without Allah’s permission—contradicting the earlier revealed laws of the Muslims or the very law with which he himself was sent—such as the dogma of tathlīth (the Trinity) and its aqānīm (hypostases); the notions of hulūl (divine indwelling) and ittiḥād (fusion of the divine and the human nature); and their claim that the Messiah is both God and the Son of God; together with their denial of matters that must be believed—faith in Allah and the Last Day—and their declaration as lawful what Allah and His messengers have prohibited, like pork and similar things, then he has already made clear that they do not follow the religion of truth by which He revealed His Book and sent His Messenger. Rather, they adhere to an invented creed concocted for them by their leaders, as the Exalted says:

“They have taken their rabbis and monks as lords apart from Allah— and (also) the Messiah, son of Mary …” (Qur’an 9:31).
