Rather, the intent is to show that the People of the Scripture already possess evidence that vindicates you in the very matters for which the unbelievers have denied you.

As He — exalted is He — says in another verse:
“Say, ‘Allah suffices as a witness between me and you, and so too those who possess knowledge of the Scripture.’” ⦗al-Raʿd: 43⦘

He — exalted is He — also says:
“Say, ‘Tell me: if it is truly from Allah and you still deny it, while a witness from the Children of Israel has testified to something similar and believed, but you waxed arrogant—surely Allah does not guide wrongdoing people.’” ⦗al-Aḥqāf: 10⦘

And He — exalted is He — says:
“Was it not a clear sign for them that the scholars of the Children of Israel recognized it?” ⦗al-Shuʿarāʾ: 197⦘

He — exalted is He — further says:
“Those to whom We gave the Scripture before this believe in it; and when it is recited to them they say, ‘We believe in it. Indeed, it is the truth from our Lord; even before it came we were already in willing submission.’” ⦗al-Qaṣaṣ: 52⦘

And He says:
“Indeed, those who were granted knowledge before it—when it is recited to them, they fall upon their faces in prostration and say, ‘Glory be to our Lord! The promise of our Lord has surely been fulfilled.’ They fall upon their faces weeping, and it increases them in humility.” ⦗al-Isrāʾ: 107–109⦘
