Ibn ʿAbbās said that Satan uttered those words only after he saw the angels. Al-Ḍaḥḥāk added: “The Devil marched by their side with his banner and his troops, and he cast into the hearts of the idolaters the thought that no one could defeat them so long as they were fighting for their religion and the religion of their forefathers.
Likewise, many people are physically carried by the jinn to distant places; they have transported large numbers of individuals to ʿArafāt and to other sites as well. Thus, when one of these persons is seen outside his own land, it may be that on one occasion he is truly being borne aloft by the jinn, while on another the jinn have merely assumed his likeness.”
