—the Moroccan—and if it can claim, “I am the Messiah (Jesus), or Abraham, or Muhammad,” then claiming to be anyone else is even easier. The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said:
“Whoever sees me in a dream has truly seen me, for Satan cannot assume my form,”
and in another wording,
“nor the forms of the Prophets.”
Thus, seeing the Prophets in one’s sleep is genuine, whereas seeing a dead person while awake is nothing but a jinn that has taken on his likeness. Some people call this “the shaykh’s spirituality,” others say, “It is his familiar spirit.” Many of these people are seen rising from their places while leaving, in that very spot, an image of itself.
