the jinni who speaks to me conveys to me a sound like the voices of those who call upon me for help, and he conveys to them a sound like my own. He shows me, in something white, an image resembling what I am enquiring about, so I go and tell people that I have seen it and that it will come to pass, even though I have not actually seen it; I have seen only its likeness.
This is exactly how the jinn deal with anyone who conjures them and binds them by oaths.
The same applies to what Constantine claimed to have seen: a cross formed of stars, and another cross that he saw on a different occasion. Both were merely images fashioned by the devils, shown to them in order to mislead them—just as the devils have done even greater things than that for the worshippers of idols.
