As for his citation in Surah al-Māʾidah:

“We sent, following in their footsteps, Jesus son of Mary, confirming the Torah that was before him; and We gave him the Gospel wherein is guidance and light, confirming what came before it of the Torah, and a guidance and admonition for the God-fearing. So let the people of the Gospel judge by what Allah has revealed therein; whoever does not judge by what Allah has sent down—those are the defiantly disobedient.” (5:46–47)

this is praise from Allah for the Messiah and the Gospel, coupled with a command to the Christians to rule according to what He revealed in it—just as He praised Moses and the Torah with language even more exalted than that with which He magnified the Messiah and the Gospel. For He, exalted is He, says:

“O Messenger, let not those who hasten toward disbelief grieve you: those who say with their mouths, ‘We believe,’ while their hearts do not believe, and from among the Jews are listeners to falsehood, listeners to other people who have never come to you …” (5:41).

That is, they utter falsehood, accept it as true, respond to and obey another group of people.
