Section: Refuting Their Claim That Islam Exalts the Gospel Now in Their Possession
They say, “As for his veneration of our Gospel and the Scriptures that are in our hands, he (i.e., Allah) says:
‘We have sent down to you the Book in truth, confirming whatever Scripture was before it.’ ⦗5:48⦘
And He says in Sūrah Āl ʿImrān:
‘Alif-Lām-Mīm. Allah—there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer. He has sent down to you the Book in truth, confirming whatever Scripture preceded it, and He sent down the Torah and the Gospel beforehand as guidance for humanity.’ ⦗3:1-4⦘
And He says in Sūrah al-Baqarah:
‘Alif-Lām-Mīm. This is the Book in which there is no doubt, a guidance for the God-fearing—those who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend out of what We have provided them; and those who believe in what has been sent down to you and what was sent down before you, and who are certain of the Hereafter. Such people are upon guidance from their Lord, and it is they who are successful.’ ⦗2:1-5⦘
Therefore, by “the Book” we mean the Gospel, and “those who believe in the unseen” refers to us.
