Moreover, He has also said: “and He sent down the Book along with them.” The disciples had no book revealed with them; the Book was revealed with the Messiah alone. By contrast, the prophets each had a type of scripture revealed with them, for the word “Book” is a generic term that encompasses all the revealed scriptures. Thus He says:
“But righteousness is [in] the one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets” ⦗al-Baqarah 177⦘;
and His statement: “All have believed in Allah, His angels, His Books, and His messengers” ⦗al-Baqarah 285⦘—in the other reading: “and His Book and His messengers.” Likewise, regarding Mary He says: “and she affirmed the words of her Lord and His Books” ⦗al-Tahrim 12⦘—in the other reading: “and His Book.”
He, exalted be He, has further said: “Mankind was one community; then Allah sent the prophets as bearers of glad tidings and as warners” ⦗al-Baqarah 213⦘.
