whom someone else had commissioned; rather, He speaks only of the messengers He Himself sent. In addition, He says:
“When We sent to them two messengers and they rejected both of them, We reinforced (the two) with a third” (Qur’an 36:14).
He therefore makes it plain that He is the One who sent those messengers, just as He has told us that He sent Noah, Moses, and others besides them. And in another verse He relates their response:

{إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَيْهِمُ اثْنَيْنِ فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَعَزَّزْنَا بِثَالِثٍ}
{قَالُوا مَا أَنْتُمْ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِثْلُنَا وَمَا أَنْزَلَ الرَّحْمَنُ مِنْ شَيْءٍ}
