each of them came with a scripture of his own, and yet He mentioned only one Book; for no company ever appeared preaching a single scripture other than the disciples, who brought the pure Gospel. It is likewise stated in the Book:
“And there came from the farthest end of the city a man running. He said, ‘My people, follow the messengers!’” ⦗Yā Sīn: 20⦘.
They claim this refers to the disciples, for He did not say “a messenger” but rather “the messengers.”
The reply proceeds on several grounds:
First: Nothing in what they have cited—nor anywhere else—entitles them to deny the Messenger who has been sent to you and to others, or to cling to a religion that has been altered and abrogated. In the same way, nothing in the veneration shown to Moses, the Torah, and those who followed Moses allows the Jews to reject the Messenger sent to them and to hold fast to an altered, abrogated religion.
Second: Their statement, “We will follow none but the Messiah and his disciples,” is false, for they are in fact following neither the Messiah nor his disciples for two reasons:

Their religion has been tampered with; most—or many—of their legal prescriptions do not stem from the Messiah or the disciples.

The Messiah himself gave glad tidings of Ahmad, as the Exalted says: “And when Jesus son of Mary said, ‘O Children of Israel, I am the messenger of Allah to you, confirming the Torah that is before me and giving glad tidings of a messenger who will come after me whose name is Ahmad.’” ⦗al-Saff: 6⦘.
