{A believing man from Pharaoh’s household—who had kept his faith hidden—said, “Will you kill a man just because he says, ‘My Lord is Allah,’ when he has already brought you clear proofs from your Lord? If he is lying, his lie will be upon him; but if he is truthful, a portion of what he threatens you with will befall you. Indeed, Allah does not guide one who is a wasteful liar.”}
[Ghafir: 28]
(28)
{“My people! Today the kingdom is yours, and you dominate the land; yet who will protect us from Allah’s might if it comes upon us?” Pharaoh said, “I only show you what I see, and I guide you to nothing but the path of rectitude.”}
[Ghafir: 29]
(29)
{The believer said, “My people, I truly fear for you a day like the Day of the Confederates,”}
[Ghafir: 30]
(30)
{“a fate like that of the people of Noah, ʿĀd, Thamūd, and those who came after them. Allah does not will injustice for His servants.”}
[Ghafir: 31]
(31)
{“My people, I fear for you the Day of Calling,”}
[Ghafir: 32]
(32)
{“the Day when you will turn and flee with no defender against Allah at all. Whoever Allah lets go astray will have no guide.”}
[Ghafir: 33]
(33)
{“Joseph came to you before with clear proofs, yet you never stopped doubting the message he brought; and when he died you said, ‘Allah will never send a messenger after him.’ Thus does Allah lead astray everyone who is an extravagant doubter,”}
[Ghafir: 34]
(34)
{“those who dispute Allah’s signs without any authority that has come to them. Such behavior is deeply abhorrent to Allah and to those who believe. That is how Allah seals the heart of every arrogant tyrant.”}
[Ghafir: 35]
(35)
{Pharaoh said, “Hāmān, build me a lofty tower so that I may reach the pathways,”}
[Ghafir: 36]
(36)
{“the pathways of the heavens, and look upon the God of Moses—though I think he is a liar.” In this way Pharaoh’s evil deeds were made to appear attractive to him, he was barred from the path, and Pharaoh’s scheming led to nothing but ruin.}
[Ghafir: 37]
(37)
{The believer said, “My people, follow me and I will guide you to the path of rectitude.}
[Ghafir: 38]
(38)
{My people, the life of this world is only brief enjoyment, whereas the Hereafter is the lasting home.}
[Ghafir: 39]
(39)
{Whoever commits an evil deed will be repaid only with its like; but whoever, male or female, does good and is a believer—such people will enter Paradise and be provided for therein without measure.}
[Ghafir: 40]
(40)
{My people, why is it that I call you to salvation while you call me to the Fire?}
[Ghafir: 41]
(41)
{You invite me to disbelieve in Allah and to associate with Him what I have no knowledge of, whereas I am inviting you to the All-Mighty, the All-Forgiving.}
[Ghafir: 42]
(42)
{There is no doubt that what you are calling me to has no standing in this world or in the Hereafter; our return is to Allah, and the prodigals are indeed the inhabitants of the Fire.}
[Ghafir: 43]
(43)
{You will soon remember what I am telling you. I entrust my affair to Allah; surely Allah is All-Seeing of His servants.”}
[Ghafir: 44]
(44)
{So Allah protected him from the evil of their plots, while the most grievous punishment encompassed Pharaoh’s people.}
[Ghafir: 45]
(45)
{The Fire: they are exposed to it morning and evening, and on the Day the Hour is established it will be said, “Admit Pharaoh’s people into the most severe punishment.”}
[Ghafir: 46]
