—that the Holy Spirit is His attribute, namely life—this is a manifest falsehood about the Messiah. Nowhere in his own words, nor in the words of any other prophet, is Allah—or any of His attributes—ever called “the Son,” nor is His life ever referred to as “the Holy Spirit.”

Moreover, they declare in their creed that the Messiah was incarnated from Mary and from the Holy Spirit. This accords with what Allah Himself has related: He sent His Spirit—Gabriel, the Holy Spirit—who breathed into Mary so that she conceived the Messiah. Thus the Messiah took bodily form, created from his mother and from that Spirit. Yet that Spirit is not an attribute of Allah—neither His life nor anything else. The term “Holy Spirit” appears frequently in the speech of the prophets and is intended either for the angel or for what Allah places in the hearts of His prophets and devoted servants—guidance, support, and the like—as He, exalted be He, says:

“Those are the ones in whose hearts He has inscribed faith and strengthened them with a Spirit from Him.” (Qur’an 58:22)

And He, exalted be He, says:

“Thus We have revealed to you a Spirit of Our command. You did not know what the Book was, nor faith; but We made it a light by which We guide whom We will of Our servants.” (Qur’an 42:52)
