Section: Refuting Their Claim that the Word of God United with the Body of the Messiah
As for their explanation of the Qur’anic phrase, “so it became a bird by the permission of Allah,” which they interpret as “by the permission of the divine nature (al-lāhūt), that is, the Word of God united with the human nature (an-nāsūt),”—if they present this merely as their own doctrine without alleging that Muhammad intended it, we would discuss the point with them and demonstrate its invalidity both rationally and through transmitted evidence.
But when they go further and maintain that Muhammad—peace and blessings be upon him—himself taught that what is meant here is the permission of that divine nature, namely the Word of God united with the human nature, this is a blatant slander against Muhammad—peace and blessings be upon him.
It is of the same order as their claim that his words,
“Guide us to the Straight Path, the path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor” [al-Fātiḥah: 6],
were meant for the Christians; or their claim that his words,
“Whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted from him” [Āl ʿImrān: 85],
apply only to the Arabs; or their claim that his words,
“We certainly sent Our messengers with clear proofs” [al-Ḥadīd: 25],
refer to the disciples—and the rest of their assertions of the same kind.
