may Allah be pleased with them both, who said: When the Christian delegation from Najrān arrived to meet the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—the Jewish rabbis also came, and the two groups quarreled in his presence. Rāfiʿ ibn Ḥuraymilah declared to the Christians, “You stand on nothing,” and he rejected both Jesus and the Gospel outright. A man from among the Christians of Najrān then turned to the Jews and said, “You stand on nothing,” denying the prophethood of Moses and disbelieving in the Torah. Concerning the words of both parties, Allah revealed:
“The Jews say, ‘The Christians are upon nothing,’ and the Christians say, ‘The Jews are upon nothing,’ even though they both recite the Scripture.” (al-Baqarah 2:113).
{وَقَالَتِ الْيَهُودُ لَيْسَتِ النَّصَارَى عَلَى شَيْءٍ وَقَالَتِ النَّصَارَى لَيْسَتِ الْيَهُودُ عَلَى شَيْءٍ وَهُمْ يَتْلُونَ الْكِتَابَ}
