and His words, exalted is He:
“Your Lord’s word has been fulfilled in truth and justice” (Qur’an 6:115),
and His words: “That is Allah’s judgment; He judges between you” (Qur’an 60:10),
and His words: “That is the command of Allah which He has sent down to you” (Qur’an 65:5).
The second kind of annexation concerns a concrete entity, as in His statement, exalted is He: “Purify My House for those who circumambulate it” (Qur’an 22:26);
and His words: “The she-camel of Allah and her drink” (Qur’an 91:13);
and His words: “A spring from which the servants of Allah will drink” (Qur’an 76:6).
In the first category, what is annexed to Him is an attribute of Allah that subsists in Him; it is neither created nor separate from Him. In the second category, what is annexed is something Allah owns—created, distinct from Him—yet it is favored and ennobled because of the qualities Allah has bestowed upon it, qualities that warranted its being attached to Him.
