Section: The Middle Way of the Muslims between the Neglect of the Jews and the Excess of the Christians

Their statement: “Then we found in this Book expressions that venerate the Lord Messiah and his mother, for it says in Sūrat al-Anbiyāʾ:

‘And she who guarded her chastity—We breathed into her of Our spirit and made her and her son a sign for all peoples.’ [al-Anbiyāʾ 91]

And it says in Sūrat Āl ʿImrān:

‘And when the angels said, “O Mary, indeed Allah has chosen you, purified you, and chosen you above the women of all worlds.”’ [Āl ʿImrān 42]

The Book also bears witness to the Messiah’s miracles: that his mother conceived him without intimacy with any man, after the angels of Allah brought her the glad tidings; that he spoke while still in the cradle; that he revived the dead, healed the congenitally blind, and cleansed the leper; and that he fashioned out of clay the likeness of a bird, breathed into it, and it became a bird—by Allah’s permission, that is, by permission of the divinity which is the Word of Allah united with the humanity. We likewise found in the Book that Allah raised him up to Himself.
