Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

— by Allah — “If they are expelled, they will not go out with them” (al-Hashr 59:12); — by Allah — “and if they are fought against, they will not support them” (al-Hashr 59:12).

One of the beauties of the Arabic language is its practice of omitting whatever the surrounding words already indicate, for the sake of brevity and conciseness—especially elements that occur frequently, such as an oath.

His saying, “Whatever I have given you of Scripture and wisdom” (Āl ʿImrān 3:81), contains the conditional mā. The intended meaning is: “Whatever I have given you of Scripture and wisdom, then when a messenger comes to you confirming what you possess, you must assuredly believe in him and support him. Do not content yourselves with what you already have in preference to what he brings, and do not let the Scripture and wisdom I have granted you cause you to abandon following him. Rather, you are obliged to believe in him and aid him. Even if you previously possessed Scripture and wisdom, what I have given you will not spare you from adhering to what he brings, for that will not save you from Allah’s punishment.”

This shows that anyone—whether a prophet or a follower—who lives to meet Muḥammad, even though he already has a book and wisdom, is required to believe in Muḥammad and support him, just as He said: “Whatever I have given you of Scripture and wisdom, then when there comes to you a messenger confirming what you have, you must assuredly believe in him and support him” (Āl ʿImrān 3:81).
