Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

until their religion became a compound of truth and falsehood, each so thoroughly mixed with the other that scarcely anyone remained who knew what the Messiah had abrogated of the Torah’s law and what he had affirmed. The Messiah actually ratified most of the Torah’s rulings and changed the meaning, and the majority of Christians are unable to distinguish what he confirmed from what was changed; consequently, the religion of the Messiah is no longer known.

Allah, Exalted be He, says:
“It is not for any human being to whom Allah has given the Scripture, judgement, and prophethood to then say to the people, ‘Be servants to me instead of Allah.’ Rather, (he would say), ‘Be godly men because of what you have been teaching the Book and because of what you have been studying.’” (Āl ʿImrān 3:79) (79)

“And neither would he command you to take the angels and the prophets as lords. Would he command you to disbelief after you have submitted?” (Āl ʿImrān 3:80)

He has thus made clear that whoever takes the angels and the prophets as lords is a disbeliever; therefore, anyone who sets up as lords those below them is even more deserving of disbelief. Moreover, He has mentioned that the Christians took as lords people beneath the angels and the prophets, when He, Exalted is He, said:
“They have taken their rabbis and monks as lords apart from Allah, and the Messiah, son of Mary; yet they were commanded only to worship one God—there is no deity but Him. Transcendent is He above what they associate with Him.” (Al-Tawbah 9:31)

Then He, Exalted is He, said in Sūrah Āl ʿImrān:
“When Allah took the covenant of the prophets: ‘Whatever I give you of Scripture and wisdom, then there comes to you a messenger confirming what you have—you must surely believe in him and support him.’ He said, ‘Do you affirm and accept My binding pledge on that?’ They said, ‘We affirm.’ He said, ‘Then bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses.’” (Āl ʿImrān 3:81)
