Section: Refuting the Christians’ claim that Islam is restricted because its Book was revealed in Arabic alone

With regard to the Quran having been sent down exclusively in the Arabic language, several answers can be given:

1. One may respond: the Torah too was revealed solely in Hebrew, and Moses—peace be upon him—spoke nothing but Hebrew. In the same way, the Messiah spoke the Torah, the Gospel, and every other scripture only in Hebrew. Indeed, every divine book is revealed by Allah in a single tongue—the tongue of the prophet who receives it and the language of the people he first addresses. After that, the scriptures and the words of the prophets are conveyed to the rest of the nations in one of three ways: either by translating them for those who do not know the language of the book, or by people learning that language so that they grasp its meanings, or by explaining to the recipient—in his own tongue—the meanings of what the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was sent with, even if he does not know the rest of what the Messenger was sent with.

Allah has also related in the Quran what the messengers said to their peoples and what those peoples said in reply to them.
