And He—the Exalted—says:
“The Jews say, ‘Ezra is the son of Allah,’ and the Christians say, ‘The Messiah is the son of Allah.’ That is merely the word of their mouths; they imitate the statement of those who disbelieved before them. May Allah condemn them—how are they deluded?” [Al-Tawbah: 30] (30)
“They have taken their rabbis and monks as lords apart from Allah, as well as the Messiah son of Mary, though they were commanded to worship only one God. There is no deity but Him. Glory be to Him—far above what they associate with Him.” [Al-Tawbah: 31] (31)
And He—the Exalted—says:
“When Allah will say, ‘O Jesus son of Mary, did you say to the people, “Take me and my mother as two gods besides Allah”?’ he will answer, ‘Glory be to You! It is not for me to say what I have no right to say. If I had said it, You would surely have known it. You know what is within my soul, and I do not know what is within Yours. Indeed, You alone are Knower of the unseen.’” [Al-Māʾidah: 116] (116)
“I said to them only what You commanded me: ‘Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord.’ I was a witness over them while I remained among them; but when You took me, You Yourself became the Watcher over them, and You are Witness over all things.” [Al-Māʾidah: 117] (117)
Thus He—the Exalted—has said: “Those who say, ‘Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary,’ have certainly disbelieved.” [Al-Māʾidah: 17]—in both passages.
And He—the Exalted—says: “Those who say, ‘Allah is the third of three,’ have certainly disbelieved.” [Al-Māʾidah: 73] (73)
And He—the Exalted—says: “Do not say, ‘Three.’ Desist—it is better for you.” [Al-Nisāʾ: 171] (171)
