the proof against those to whom the message has reached, and other objectives besides. His words:
“A blessed Book We have sent down to you so that they may contemplate its verses and that people of sound understanding may take heed.” ⦗Ṣād 38:29⦘
contain other wisdoms, including establishing the proof against humankind and the misguidance of those who go astray through it. In the same vein, He says:
“This is a proclamation for mankind, that they may be warned by it, that they may know that He is but One God, and that those endowed with insight may remember.” ⦗Ibrāhīm 14:52⦘
It is evident that this passage, too, fulfills other aims, including conveying glad tidings, issuing commands and prohibitions, and the like. The same applies to His statement:
“O you who believe, be mindful of Allah and believe in His Messenger; He will grant you a twofold share of His mercy, will place for you a light by which you walk, and will forgive you—Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful—so that the People of the Book may know that they have no power over any portion of Allah’s bounty and that all bounty rests in Allah’s hand.” ⦗al-Ḥadīd 57:28–29⦘
Clearly, the reward granted to the believers serves ends beyond merely informing the People of the Book of these facts and what attends them. He, exalted is He, also says:
“This is a blessed Book We have sent down, confirming what came before it, so that you may warn the Mother of Cities and those around her.” ⦗al-Anʿām 6:92⦘
Here as well there are additional wisdoms—such as bringing good news to those who believe in it, conveying commands and prohibitions, and warning other Arabs outside that immediate circle.
