Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

It is likewise evident that raising all created beings on the Day of Resurrection has purposes beyond clarifying for these people the matters over which they differed in knowledge. What shows this is His statement in the very verse they cite as proof:

“So that you may warn a people whose forefathers were not warned,” ⦗Ya Sin 36:6⦘.

Yet it is well known that he was not sent merely to warn. He was also sent to bring glad tidings to those who believe in him, to command them to do what is right and forbid them from what is wrong, to make lawful what is wholesome and forbid what is vile, and to accomplish the other aims for which all messengers were sent. Allah, exalted is He, said:

“Messengers as bearers of good news and as warners,” ⦗al-Nisāʾ 4:165⦘,

and He said:

“We do not send the messengers except as bearers of good news and as warners,” ⦗al-Anʿām 6:48⦘.

This does not contradict the fact that, in another place, He described them only as warners, for He also said:

“All praise is due to Allah, who has sent down upon His servant the Book and placed in it no crookedness—upright, to warn of a severe punishment from Him and to give good news to the believers who do righteous deeds that they shall have a fine reward, remaining therein forever—and to warn those who say, ‘Allah has taken a son.’ They have no knowledge of it, nor did their forefathers. Grave indeed is the word that comes from their mouths; they say nothing but a lie.” ⦗al-Kahf 18:1–5⦘.

On one occasion, the Muslims performed the ʿEid prayer while laying siege to the Christians; their preacher stood up and delivered a sermon using this very passage. When he recited the words:
