Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-Masīh - Ibn Taimiya - (1/428)

He also said in Sūrah al-Sajdah:

“Or do they say, ‘He has fabricated it’? No indeed—it is the truth from your Lord, so that you may warn a people to whom no warner has come before you, that they might be guided.” ⦗al-Sajdah 32:3⦘

And He said in Sūrah Yā-Sīn:

“Yā-Sīn. By the wise Qur’an, you are certainly one of the messengers, upon a straight path—a revelation from the Almighty, the Most Merciful—so that you may warn a people whose forefathers were never warned, and who therefore remain heedless.” ⦗Yā-Sīn 36:1-6⦘

In these three passages the Exalted One reminds them of His favour, establishes His proof against them by sending him, and discloses some of the wisdom behind that mission. This wording does not mean that he was sent solely for this purpose; rather, such expressions are frequent and well known in Arabic and in other tongues.

وَقَالَ فِي سُورَةِ السَّجْدَةِ: {أَمْ يَقُولُونَ افْتَرَاهُ بَلْ هُوَ الْحَقُّ مِنْ رَبِّكَ لِتُنْذِرَ قَوْمًا مَا أَتَاهُمْ مِنْ نَذِيرٍ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَهْتَدُونَ} [السجدة: ٣] . وَقَالَ فِي سُورَةِ يس: {يس - وَالْقُرْآنِ الْحَكِيمِ - إِنَّكَ لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ - عَلَى صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ - تَنْزِيلَ الْعَزِيزِ الرَّحِيمِ - لِتُنْذِرَ قَوْمًا مَا أُنْذِرَ آبَاؤُهُمْ فَهُمْ غَافِلُونَ} [يس: ١ - ٦] . ذَكَرَ تَعَالَى فِي هَذِهِ الْآيَاتِ الثَّلَاثِ نِعْمَتَهُ عَلَى هَؤُلَاءِ، وَحُجَّتَهُ عَلَيْهِمْ بِإِرْسَالِهِ، وَذَكَرَ بَعْضَ حِكْمَتِهِ فِي إِرْسَالِهِ وَذَلِكَ لَا يَقْتَضِي أَنَّهُ لَمْ يُرْسِلْ إِلَّا لِهَذَا، بَلْ مِثْلُ هَذَا كَثِيرٌ مَعْرُوفٌ فِي لِسَانِ الْعَرَبِ وَغَيْرِهِمْ.
