When they alleged that this Qur’an was something he himself had composed, Allah the Exalted said:

“Or do they say, ‘He has forged it’? No indeed—they simply refuse to believe. Let them, then, bring a discourse like it if they are truthful.” ⦗al-Tūr 52:33-34⦘

He next challenged them with ten surahs, saying:

“Or do they say, ‘He invented it’? Say, ‘Then bring ten surahs like it, invented, and call on whomever you can besides Allah, if you are truthful. But if they do not respond to you, then know that it was sent down with Allah’s knowledge, and that there is no god but He. Will you not then submit?’” ⦗Hūd 11:13-14⦘

Then He challenged them with a single surah, declaring:

“If you are in doubt about what We have sent down upon Our servant, then produce a surah like it, and summon your witnesses other than Allah, if you are truthful. But if you do not—and you will never do so …’” ⦗al-Baqarah 2:23⦘

He also said:

“Or do they say, ‘He invented it’? Say, ‘Then bring a surah like it, and call on whomever you can besides Allah.’” ⦗Yūnus 10:38⦘

Thus every creature proved incapable of matching what he brought, and Allah recorded the incapacity of all people until the Day of Resurrection with His words:
