Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

Anas ibn Mālik related: “The people of Mecca asked the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, to show them a sign, so he showed them the moon split in two until they could see Mount Ḥirā’ between the two halves. Then the verse was revealed: ‘The Hour has drawn near and the moon has split; yet whenever they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Persistent magic.”’ ⦗al-Qamar 1⦘.”

This report is sound and widely attested. It is transmitted by Ibn Masʿūd, Anas ibn Mālik, and Ibn ʿAbbās, and it is also well known from Ḥudhayfah. Abū’l-Faraj Ibn al-Jawzī said: “Authentic narrations affirming the moon’s splitting are found from Ibn ʿUmar, Ibn Masʿūd, Ibn ʿAbbās, and Anas, may Allah be pleased with them.”
