He informed them that He would show them, within their own selves and on the horizons, evidence that would make plain that the Qur’an is true, so that they would witness the very things it had foretold exactly as it had foretold them. Then He said:
“Is it not enough that your Lord is witness over all things?” ⦗Q 41:53⦘
For the Qur’an can already be attested as true by the manifest signs and conclusive proofs that demonstrate its veracity—signs that are clarified by the Lord’s own testimony that it is indeed the truth—so once this present testimony is in hand, there is no need to wait for additional future signs.
The Exalted also says:
“The Hour has drawn near and the moon has split. Yet whenever they see a sign they turn away and say, ‘Persistent magic.’ They denied and followed their own desires, whereas every matter is settled in the end. Surely there has already come to them, in the reports (of former peoples), that which should restrain them—consummate wisdom—yet warnings are of no avail.” ⦗Q 54:1-5⦘
He declared that the Hour is near and that the moon was split. They witnessed the splitting of the moon with their own eyes, the reports of it are mass-transmitted, and the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—used to recite this surah on major public occasions such as the Friday congregation and the two festivals, so that people might hear the signs of prophethood it contains, its evidences, and its lessons. Everyone acknowledged this and no one denied it, from which it is evident that the splitting of the moon was common knowledge among the people at large.
He then mentioned the condition of the earlier prophets and their deniers, saying:
“The people of Noah before them rejected—so they denied Our servant, saying, ‘Madman!’ and he was rebuffed. He therefore called upon his Lord, ‘I am overpowered, so help me!’ Then We opened the gates of the sky with pouring water and caused the earth to burst forth springs, so the waters met according to a decree already set. We carried him on a vessel of planks and nails, sailing under Our eyes, as recompense for the one who had been rejected. And indeed We left it as a sign; so is there anyone who will take heed?” ⦗Q 54:9-15⦘
