was among his own people—those who opposed him and those who did not—they all admitted that he had never met anyone who could have taught him such matters. This fact was transmitted through multiple-chain reports until it reached the level of certainty, and even his adversaries acknowledged it, keen as they were to find any fault if they could.
Thus, the information he gave about past unseen events constituted an irrefutable proof against his people and against everyone who heard of it. He also foretold future unseen events, and these serve as a proof for anyone who has witnessed their confirmation, just as the Exalted says:
“The Byzantines have been defeated in the nearest land.” ⦗al-Rūm 2⦘
He then said:
“Alif-Lām-Mīm. The Byzantines have been defeated in the nearest land, yet after their defeat they will be victorious, within a few years. To Allah belongs the command before and after, and on that day the believers will rejoice in Allah’s help—He gives victory to whom He wills.” ⦗al-Rūm 1–5⦘
The Exalted also says:
“If you are in doubt about what We have sent down upon Our servant, then produce a surah like it and call your witnesses other than Allah, if you are truthful. But if you do not—and you will never be able to do so….” ⦗al-Baqarah 23–24⦘
He informed them that they would never succeed in doing so in the future, and events unfolded exactly as He had foretold.
