Al-Jawāb as-Sahīh li-man baddala dīn al-MasīhIbn Taimiya

Nor was there among his own people—or in his entire town—anyone capable of such a task who might have assisted him in it; for that reason the Exalted One said,
“So they have come with wrongdoing and falsehood.” ⦗al-Furqān 4⦘

Every inhabitant of his town and tribe who opposed him knew that this charge was an act of injustice and a blatant lie; hence not a single one of their acknowledged men of sound reason ever voiced it.

The same is true of their statement, “It is only the tales of the ancients which he has had written down; they are dictated to him morning and evening.” For his own people—the very ones who denied him—were well aware that no one was dictating a book to him. Allah then laid bare the falsity of their claim by saying, “Say: ‘It has been sent down by the One who knows the secret in the heavens and the earth.’” ⦗al-Furqān 6⦘

The Qur’an contains mysteries that no human being could know unless Allah Himself revealed them to him, for Allah alone knows the hidden realities of the heavens and the earth.

Once the futility of that allegation had been exposed, He cited the next objection they raised against his prophethood:
“What is it with this Messenger that he eats food and walks in the marketplaces? Why has an angel not been sent down to be a warner along with him—or a treasure cast down to him, or a garden from which he might eat? And the wrongdoers say, ‘You are following nothing but a man who is bewitched.’” ⦗al-Furqān 7–8⦘

Such were the words of his opponents, who found fault with his eating food and walking through the markets where food and clothing are sold. They protested: “Why was an angel not sent down to accompany him as a warner, or a treasure granted to him so that he could dispense with the need to trade, or a garden from which he could eat?” And the wrongdoers declared, “You are following nothing but a man who is bewitched.”
